The Byproduct of Purpose

Looking out over Navy Pier from my home in downtown Chicago, I sometimes pause to reflect on my journey. This wasn’t my dream. I never set out with the goal of living here, but it became a byproduct of the work I’ve done—the work I’ve been called to do. My focus has never been on chasing money or status; instead, I’ve committed myself to adding value, empowering others, and working to make my city better.

Through this journey, I’ve learned an important lesson: Life isn’t about accumulating wealth, it’s about becoming a person of value. When you focus on making a difference, success in relationships, opportunities, and even finances will naturally follow.

Success Follows Value, Not the Other Way Around

Many people believe that money leads to happiness, but I’ve realized the opposite is true. Money is simply a tool—a byproduct of the impact we make. When you dedicate yourself to solving problems, helping others, and contributing to the world around you, wealth (in all forms) comes naturally.

Be the Solution, Not the Complaint

Too often, we focus on what’s wrong in our communities, workplaces, and even our own lives. It’s easy to complain. It takes no effort to point out problems. But I challenge you to do something different.

Instead of complaining, become the solution. Ask yourself:

  • What issues do I see in my community or industry?
  • What unique skills, talents, or experiences do I have that could help solve these issues?
  • Am I willing to take action, or will I just talk about what’s wrong?

The world needs more problem-solvers and fewer complainers. If you want to stand out, start adding value where you are. Be someone who makes things better rather than someone who only points out what’s broken.

The Path to True Wealth

Looking back at my journey, I see how everything has unfolded not because I chased success but because I focused on others. Investing in people, solving problems, and staying true to my purpose helped me build a life of meaning and success.

I want to challenge you to shift your mindset. Stop chasing money, stop waiting for the perfect opportunity, and start creating value where you are right now. When you become a person of value, everything else will take care of itself.

Are you ready to step up? Find a problem, become the solution, and watch how your life transforms.
